The Aubrey Rose Foundation assists families of children with life-threatening illnesses. It is named for Aubrey Rose Hollenkamp, a child whose battle with complications from Scimitar Syndrome ended in November of 2000, when she passed away just two days before her third birthday.
Birmingham is one of my favorite places to visit–I love the shopping (the Summit!), the restaurants (Cheesecake Factory, Jim and Nicks, Kobe…), and the rolling beauty of the countryside. I recently discovered that my childhood friend, Robyn Jackson, is the author of a wonderful novel set in the 1800s. Her book, Lakota Moon, dramatically portrays the romantic adventure of Mary Eliza McElroy, a young pioneer girl who is captured by a Lakota warrior during her family’s wagon train journey to Oregon.
