Dallas and Daisy, beagle/mix puppies adopted from the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
Back in April, Nathan asked for a puppy for his birthday. We talked him into waiting until summer but after our vacation/dental conference (I hate to kennel new puppies). Two weeks ago, our family went to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, located in Gulfport, to let Nathan make his selection.
So how did we end up with two puppies? While Nathan was choosing a beagle/mix pup, sister Michelle was falling for an American Blue Heeler with two different colored eyes. As I have previously posted, Michelle has heterochromia, so she was feeling a “cosmic connection” with this dog. She talked her dad into letting her adopt it, but while she was negotiating this, a lady with green hair developed a cosmic connection, too, and adopted it first.
So Michelle was bummed out. On the way home, we discovered that Nathan’s selection, “Dallas,” shared the same birthday as “Shadow,” our miniature dachshund that we lost a couple of years ago. That birth date, by the way, is also one day before Nathan’s. Destiny, don’t you think? We asked Michelle to consider adopting one of Dallas’s siblings (that whole litter was really cute). She looked at the puppies on the HSSM website and thought about it over the weekend.
So Daisy joined Dallas. They are sooo happy together. There have been no cry-baby nights, and the pleas for attention during the day have been minimal. Puppy love…it’s a beautiful thing.

I’m beginning to think puppies really should come in pairs. Sofie would love to have a friend her own size. Being Maltese and Shih tzu she’s only about 8 pounds.

And then, if you’ve had Sofie for a long time, she may get jealous of the competition. Hard to know. I’m definitely glad we got two at the same time. They keep each other company which has made for a good beginning.
