Sylvie Stephens spends precious time with her daughter, Sydney.

Another lovely letter from Sylvie Stephens:

I have been moved to tears over the latest guestbook entries.  I can’t tell you what the posts, emails and voicemails received mean to me.  I am so grateful and humbled by so much love and prayer.  I will never be able topay it back, or thank everyone properly.  I will have to pay it forward one day to someone in my situation that needs guidance and love.

I’ve had some tough moments this week that are always followed by loving gazes from my little girl.  I swear she is trying to tell me things!  It is so cute.  The way she will stare and move her mouth…  “What are you trying to say?” I will ask her. She kicked me a lot last night.  She wants me to be awake when she is awake, too.  :) She is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! I just stare at her all the time.

Sydney has become the “PICU Fashion Plate” and every morning the nurses, doctors and staff peek in to see what she is wearing!  PINK is her color like I’ve never seen!  I will post more pictures of her many outfits.

Yesterday we had a photo session with a professional photographer.  Oh, wait till you see some of those pics!  All soon to come, promise.  I spend nearly every moment in her room.  It’s tough to get away, but I do, and realize it is important.  I am taking care of myself with the help of many nurses that remind me to eat!

Which brings me to the nurses.  They are ANGELS.  I make gigantic angel wings in the air when I speak of them.  Their compassion, not just for the patients but also for the whole family, is unreal.  I won’t be the first to lose a loved one in a hospital.  But the medical care and love demonstrated here should be the STANDARD in every health care institution.  It breaks my heart to think of anyone going through this same situation without the kindness that has been extended by so many here at Children’s Hospital. The world of pediatric medicine is truly a beautiful place to be.  I know that sounds peculiar to say, but there is so much love in this world I’m in, you can’t help but be transformed by it, strengthened by it.

Lots of love.  Please keep praying for us.

[The family of little Sydney has been informed that she will not survive.  Please remember them in your prayers, and if you feel moved to sign Sydney's online journal, go to www.caringbridge.org/visit/sydneycook.  The password is squeaker.]
