I guess I get it from my mother. She always made fabulous custom Easter baskets for my brother and me. They were filled with chocolates and candy and a few little surprises; and they were wrapped up in pastel colored netting with handmade bows and curly ribbons.
So I have to keep up the tradition with Nathan. But for some reason, he’s not as thrilled about the chocolates as my brother and I were. He digs around for the little toys and collector’s cards and video games I tuck here and there.
Still, what’s an Easter basket without Elmer’s Gold Brick Eggs or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups? Malted Milk Robin Eggs are always a nice touch. Remember Sixlets and foil-covered chocolate eggs? And an Easter basket must have a hollow chocolate bunny.
If I’m going to create an authentic Easter basket, I really have no choice but to include these traditional items even though Nathan is not likely to eat them. Of course, I hate to waste that stuff. True, I’ve outgrown Easter goodies, but sometimes as parents, we have to make sacrifices. I used to love Cadbury eggs…
